The American Museum was located across the street from the prestigious Anglican St. Paul's Chapel and the Astor House, one of New York City's largest and finest hotels. The Astor House had over 300 rooms accommodating up to 800 guests and its common and dining rooms served as a public space for middle- and upper-class city residents associated with the city's commercial elite.
